Description
The former forge, now a workshop, is located to the east of the British Waterways Burnley Operations Base. It was likely built in the early 19th century and has undergone slight alterations, including a 20th-century addition on the left side. The building is constructed from sandstone random rubble and has a composition tile roof. It is a small, single-storey rectangular structure featuring two windows: a central 2-light mullioned window with a square-cut mullion and 20th-century 12+12-pane fixed glazing, and a similarly sized window to the right with recessed 36-pane fixed glazing and shutter lugs. There is also a doorway on the left with a boarded door, all openings having plain surrounds. A 20th-century brick chimney is located at the right-hand gable. The left extension is made of coursed squared sandstone. The rear of the building is built back-to-earth but has two boarded oblong windows above the bank. The interior has not been inspected. This forge forms a group with Finsley House to the left and the former warehouse of the Finsley Gate boatyard to the right, which adds to its group value.
