SD83SW FINSLEY GATE 906-1/3/56 (South side) Former forge to east of British Waterways Burnley Operations Base

GV II

Forge, now workshop. Probably early C19; slightly altered, with C20 addition to left. Sandstone random rubble, composition tile roof. Small rectangular single-storey building, 2 windows; a 2-light mullioned window in the centre with a square-cut mullion and C20 12+12-pane fixed glazing, a similarly-proportioned window to the right with recessed 36-pane fixed glazing (horizontal panes of similar size to those of former warehouse, qv) and shutter lugs, and a doorway to the left with a board door; all these openings with plain surrounds. C20 brick chimney at right-hand gable. C20 extension to left, of coursed squared sandstone. Rear built back-to-earth, but with 2 oblong windows above the bank, both boarded. INTERIOR not inspected. Forms group with Finsley House to left (qv) and with former warehouse to former Finsley Gate boatyard to right (qv). Included for group value.
