Description

Finsley House is a house that likely dates from around 1700 and was remodeled between 1790 and 1796. It has been altered and recently renovated internally. The building features a sandstone random rubble exterior that is now rendered, with a stone slate roof. It has an L-shaped plan, consisting of a two-unit single-depth front range and a full-height rear outshut in the center and to the right.

The house is two stories tall and has three windows arranged symmetrically. There is a central doorway with a plain surround and a panelled and glazed door. The ground floor has two vertical-rectangular windows, while the upper floor has three square windows, all with plain surrounds and now fitted with 20th-century top-hung casements. The building also has stone gutter corbels and gable chimneys.

To the right side, there is a single-storey gabled porch attached to the return wall, along with various altered windows on this side and at the rear. The interior has been altered as well. Historically, Finsley House was occupied by an engineer responsible for operating the Finsley Gate turn bridge. It is part of a group with a former warehouse and forge located at the Finsley Gate boatyard and wharf.
