Description
The Forge is a house and former forge, now used as a workshop, dating from the early 19th century with mid-20th century rear additions. It features colourwashed brick with some random flint and stone rubblework at the rear and has a pantiled roof. The building is two storeys high and consists of a single range divided into two sections with different roof pitches. The left section is likely the earlier part and was originally two cottages, featuring three widely spaced windows with 2-light small-paned casements under segmental arches, although one window has been replaced by a mid-20th century casement. The right section was originally one dwelling and has three windows with inset 6-paned sashes under segmental arches, along with a mid-20th century door and enclosed porch. There is an internal stack in each range. The red brick forge is located on the right, with its gable end facing the road, and is now attached to the house by a short link. The interior includes timber framing with stop-chamfered beams.
