Description
Rockwood is a villa, now functioning as a school, built around 1830 to 1848. It is constructed from sandstone ashlar and has a slate roof. The building features a double-depth, double-fronted plan with two storeys and a symmetrical arrangement of windows, consisting of two windows on the outer bays and one in the center, which slightly projects forward. The façade is adorned with rusticated corner pilasters, a plain frieze, and a moulded cornice with a blocking course.
The central entrance includes a round-headed doorway with a keystone, a panelled door, and a fanlight, all sheltered by a Corinthian portico that has a balustraded parapet. Above the entrance, there is a 2-light French window supported by a cornice on consoles. The outer bays feature large 4-pane sashed windows with raised sills and plain reveals. The gables are coped, and there are gable chimneys. At the rear, the building has 12-pane sashed windows and a round-headed stair-window. The interior has not been inspected.
