Description
Towneley Golf Club Clubhouse, shop, and cottage is a farmhouse that has been converted into a clubhouse, shop, and cottage, likely dating from the mid to late 18th century and has been altered over time. The building is constructed from coursed sandstone rubble with painted white quoins and features stone slate roofs. It has a double-pile plan beneath a two-span roof and is double-fronted, with a short set-back extension on the right side.
The structure is two storeys tall and has a symmetrical main range with three windows on the left and one on the right. The central doorway has a plain surround, with a one-light window above it and two 2-light mullioned windows on each floor, all featuring plain surrounds and altered glazing with 6-pane top-hung casements. The gables have copings with kneelers and large corniced gable chimneys. The set-back extension on the right has a ground floor window and doorway that are coupled, with a similar 2-light window above. An altered former barn continues to the right, and the rear range has similar openings. The interior has not been inspected.
