Description
The Old Lodge Inn, originally a detached house, is now a clubhouse. It dates from the mid to late 17th century and was enlarged in the mid to late 18th century. The building is constructed of random rubble limestone with ashlar chimneys and a stone slate roof. It is two stories high with an attic and has been extended to the south.
On the north side, which was the original front of the 17th-century house, the view is obscured to the right by a late 19th-century wing that has an east-facing gable. To the left, there is a full parapet gable with a single-window arrangement below, featuring a mix of timber casements and roughcast render on the gable.
The east side shows the gable end of the main 17th-century range on the right, with a single-window arrangement below that has been altered on the ground floor to include glazed doors. To the left is an 18th-century addition with a single timber mullioned upper floor window that has an iron casement, a 19th-century four-pane sash window below, and a doorway.
At the rear, there is a projecting gabled stair turret from the 17th-century house. Various single-storey additions from the 20th century are not considered of special interest. The building was originally built as a hunting lodge and had become an inn by the 18th century. Around 1895, it began to be used as a golf clubhouse.
