Description

This structure is a wall that runs from the former stable block to the south, extending to a point north of Highlands Cottage. It features a gate located to the north-east of Beaudesert Park School and an archway over the footpath leading to West View. Built in the mid-19th century, the wall was constructed either for the Bishop of Bristol and Gloucester or for J G Frith. It is made of dry stone and stands about 6 feet high, with a soldier course.

The wall's two main features are the gate and the arch. The gate is made of dressed stone, topped with a Tudor archway and a battened door. Its surround is chamfered and decorated with a Tudor rose ornament. Above the gate is weathered coping and a carved panel that bears the inscription "Welcome." The archway is plain, featuring large voussoirs and a brick-lined tunnel vault for the path above. The wall continues downhill towards the former stable block. Near the lodge, the wall is flanked by quadrant railings that mark the entrance to the avenue of Wellingtonias.
