Description
Box Terrace consists of five former houses, originally six, built in the early 19th century. The structure is made of coursed rubble limestone and features various rebuilt chimneys and a stone slate roof. It is two stories high. The front of the terrace has a similar arrangement of windows for each house, including a three-light mullioned casement and a doorway on the ground floor, with two two-light casements above, all topped with three-centred arched heads. The doorways are grouped in pairs, mostly featuring plank doors. There have been some 20th-century alterations: Thimblepen has been created from two houses, with one doorway blocked and the other featuring a gabled rubble-built porch addition. Wolde Cottage and Wayland Cottage have 20th-century conservatory porches. The two houses at the east end of the row have different window arrangements and are not considered of special interest. The interiors have not been inspected.
