Description
Amberley School is a building dated 1887, constructed of coursed and squared limestone with ashlar chimneys and a stone slate roof. It is a single-storey structure featuring end cross wings. The front of the school has a central range with two mullioned and transomed casements on either side of a tall chimney mounted at the eaves, along with an inscription plaque located centrally below. The projecting gabled wings each contain a single mullioned and transomed casement and have plain barge boards, with the left gable also displaying a clock face. Opposed projecting gabled porches, each with a shouldered arched doorway, face each other across the school yard. A ridge-mounted belcote is situated on the north cross wing. The full gable end to the south features a mullioned and transomed casement flanked by two lower casements, with a stepped hoodmould above. The rear has gabled ends to the wings and a smaller gable above an off-centre window. An attached 20th-century flat-roofed addition is not of special interest. The school was built to commemorate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee and remains unaltered externally.
