Description
The Amberley War Memorial, dating from around 1920, is made of local limestone and features a copper bolted band around the upper part of the column. It consists of a carved wheel cross on top of a tall, octagonal, tapering column that stands approximately 4.5 metres high. Below the cross is a carved collar with a geometric pattern. The base of the column is square and rests on a larger square plinth with moulded corners. The north face of the plinth is inscribed with the words "OUR GLORIOUS DEAD 1914-1918." The other three faces of the base bear the names, ranks, and regiments or services of the 21 individuals commemorated from World War I. The plinth is situated on a three-stepped platform, with the uppermost step's north face inscribed with "1939-1945." The remaining three faces of this step list the names, ranks, decorations, and regiments or services of the 9 individuals commemorated from World War II.
