Description
Pennyhill is an altered cottage from around 1700, reflecting the traditional style of the Cotswolds. Originally a pair of cottages, it is constructed of rubble with a stone tile roof and features two chimneys. The building has two attic gables, each with two-light mullion windows and drips. On the ground floor, there are four later (19th century) casement windows and two hipped lean-to porches. The doorways have chamfered surrounds with stops at each end of the posts; the left doorway has a modern half-glazed door, while the right has a ledged door with strap-hinges. To the right of the left-hand door, there is a single-light window with a cornice. At the rear, there are four windows, with the inner ones being mullioned. The north gable end features a range of mullion windows, including a single-light window in the attic and a three-light window on the ground floor. Inside, there are back-to-back inglenook fireplaces with wooden lintels and bread ovens. The former north cottage includes a stone newel stair, which is concealed beneath modern stairs.
