Description
Number 18 and the adjoining cottages numbered 1 and 3 on Carrhill Road are a house and two cottages with a workshop on the top floor, which were formerly used as a school. They were built in the late 18th century and feature hammer-dressed stone with a graduated stone slate roof.
The structure consists of a double-depth one-bay house on the right and back-to-back cottages on the left. The second storey serves as a single workshop with separate access at the rear. The central door has a square-cut surround and is flanked on the ground and first floors by five-light recessed flat-faced stone mullion windows. The second floor has five and seven-light flat-faced mullion windows. The doors to the cottages, which were built slightly later than Number 18, are located on the gable, along with a two, four, and five-light recessed flat-faced stone mullion window. The rear also features similar windows and has a flight of stone steps leading to the workshop. There is one brick and one stone ridge chimney stack.
