Description

A row of five cottages, now divided into four separate dwellings, was built in 1810, with numbers 1 and 2 added slightly later. The cottages are constructed of hammer-dressed stone with a stone slate roof. They are two storeys high and double in depth. Each cottage has a front doorway facing south, with tie-stone jambs, and a three-light, flat-faced mullioned window on each floor. It is likely that numbers 3 and 4 originally had six-light windows instead of three. Number 4 features a doorway with monolithic jambs and lintel inscribed "H 1810 C." A quoined detail is visible on the rear elevation between numbers 2 and 3 at the first floor level. The rear of the cottages showcases two-light, three-light, and four-light windows and doorways with monolithic jambs. Four stacks are visible along the ridge. Inside number 4, there are large, chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, and a fireplace with a basket-arched lintel supported by corbelled jambs.
