Description

Crabtree Fold Old Town House and the attached barn are back-to-back houses dating from the late 18th century to the early 19th century. They are constructed of hammer-dressed stone with ashlar quoins and feature a stone slate roof. The building is two storeys high. The north front has three bays with flat-faced mullioned windows that have been altered to wide lights, along with a doorway that has monolithic jambs. The barn includes a semi-circular-arched cart entry with a simple Venetian window above it, and to the left of the entry are three arch-headed ventilators. Attached to the northwest end of the barn is a single-cell cottage (No. 4), which is back-to-back with No. 5. This cottage has a 5-light window with a 6-light window above it. The gables are coped with kneelers. The left-hand return wall features a central doorway leading to the rear of the Old Town house, which is made of finer dressed stone from the 19th century and has three bays of flat-faced mullioned windows with configurations of 4 lights, 5 lights, and 4 lights on each floor. The interior reveals attic windows from an earlier house that are now blocked, with a 19th-century bay in front. Originally, the structure was L-shaped up to the barn, which projects forward and has a 5-light window with a raised central light that is blocked, along with a columbarium above it. The barn also features a semi-circular arched cart entry with an altered Venetian window to the right and has four stacks on the roof.
