Description
32, 36, and 38 Main Street are three houses that were originally built as shops in the early 19th century. They are constructed from coursed millstone grit and feature a stone slate roof. The buildings are two storeys high, each with one window on the first floor. They are situated on a slope, with numbers 32 and 36 having a plinth. The corners of the buildings are marked with quoins. The doors and windows have plain stone surrounds, with the windows featuring flat-faced mullions and projecting cills.
Number 32 has three steps leading up to a central 20th-century glazed door, which is flanked by single-light windows that have shutter hinges. Below this, there is a passageway with a plank door that is studded with nails. Numbers 36 and 38 share paired doors, which are accessed by a step and have a shared central jamb, flanked by large single-light windows. Each cottage has one three-light window on the first floor. The left gable features a shaped kneeler and ashlar coping, and there is a corniced end stack for each cottage. Additionally, there are blocked ground and first-floor doors in the left gable.
