Description
Winterford Bridge and Lock Number W14 is a lock and adjoining roving bridge on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal, built between 1794 and 1797 by engineer Benjamin Outram. The structure is made of hammer-dressed stone. The lock features grooves for stop planks and has gate recesses, although it currently lacks gates and has been largely filled in during the 20th century. The roving bridge at the tail-end has an elliptical arch, a stone band, and side walls that are curved in plan. These walls have rounded copings and are finished on one side with a square pier, sloping down to canal level on the other side.
