Description
Lockkeeper's cottage, probably built around 1805, is located adjacent to Lock Number 9 on the Peak Forest Canal. The cottage is constructed from random stone with a slate roof and features a brick chimney stack. It has one room on the ground floor and two rooms on the first floor, along with an outshut wing at the rear. Notable architectural details include stone quoins and shaped stone gutter brackets. The entrance door is obscured by a later porch, and there is a three-light flat-faced mullion window on each floor, which has multi-paned casements and 20th-century replacements. The right side of the cottage has two one-light windows, while the left side has four. A single ridge chimney stack is present. This building is included for its group value.
