Description

A lock keepers house, dating from around 1800, situated on the Peak Forest Canal. The house is constructed of irregular rubble with stone dressings, and has a slate roof and a brick stack. It follows a double-depth plan, with two storeys at the front and three at the rear, along with a small lean-to at the rear and a 20th-century extension to the right. Stone quoins are present. A door with flat-faced monolithic jambs and lintel is located on the left side. There are three-light stone mullion windows with 20th-century leaded casements to each floor, and four single-light openings to the left gable.
