Description
The Iron Bridge is a road bridge over the River Goyt, built in 1813, as indicated by the keystone. It was fabricated by Salford Iron Works for a mill owner named Wright. The bridge features an iron structure with stone abutments and a segmental arch that supports a cambered deck. It has three cast iron arches, each with pierced spandrels that contain five open cast iron circles. The deck beam is marked with "Salford Iron Works" and is supported by scrolled brackets that hold iron railings. In the center of the bridge, there is a panel that surrounds the letter W. The railings are terminated by circular ashlar columns topped with hemi-spherical copings.
