SJ 98 NE MARPLE LOCKSIDE (west side) Marple 7/93 Toll house opposite Top - Lock

Toll house, now house. Early C19 with 2-bay addition of later C19. Dressed stone with slate roof. Originally a 2- storey house of 1 x 1 bay with access to the toll office at first floor level. Extended to rear by 2 bays. Steps give access to the office door which has a later timber porch. The window to the right is blocked and has stone sill and wedge lintel and next to it is the board where current toll prices were displayed. The left side has a door obscured by a C20 porch and an 8-pane sash window on each floor with wedge lintel and stone sill. The later addition has 2 sash windows on each floor with stone heads and sills. Bracketed eaves gutter, hipped roof and 3 chimney stacks.
