Description

The Greek Church of the Annunciation and the attached former presbytery were built between 1860 and 1861 by Clegg & Knowles. The main front features channelled ashlar, while the rest of the building is made of brick with ashlar dressings, and the roof is not visible. The church is designed in a Classical style, highlighted by a central portico with three bays supported by Corinthian columns that carry a pediment, with pilasters marking the outer bays. A modillion cornice runs above, and there is a cross on the apex of the pediment. The portico has three recessed windows, a central door, and additional doorways on either side at the angles of the outer bays. The return elevation consists of two bays of ashlar with windows featuring pedimented entablatures, followed by a six-window range of white brick divided by Corinthian pilasters. The former presbytery at the rear is designed in a similar style. The interior has not been inspected.
