SD8201SE BURY NEW ROAD 949-1/8/29 (East side) 18/01/80 Greek Church of the Annunciation and attached former presbytery

GV II

Church. 1860-1. By Clegg & Knowles. Channelled ashlar, to main front, the rest brick with ashlar dressings, and roof not seen. Classical style with central portico of 3 bays with Corinthian columns carrying pediment, and pilasters marking flanking bays. Modillion cornice over and cross on apex of pediment. 3 windows recessed behind portico, central door, and additional doorways each side in angles of outer bays. Return elevation has 2 bays ashlar with windows with pedimented entablatures, then 6-window range of white brick divided by Corinthian pilasters. Former presbytery attached to rear in similar style. INTERIOR not inspected.
