Description
No. 1 Murray Street, also known as No. 258 Great Clowes Street, is a former pair of houses combined into one, currently functioning as a nursing home. The building dates from around 1830 and is constructed of stucco with a hipped Welsh slate roof. It has two storeys above a basement and features a seven-window range with angle pilasters. To the left of the center, there is an Ionic portico porch in a slightly advanced bay. The windows have all been renewed but remain in their original openings, with a continuous sill-band at the first floor. There is a similar three-window return to Murray Street, which also has a central Ionic portico porch. The building has a plain wood eaves cornice and an axial stack. The interior has not been inspected.
