Description
The Church of All Saints War Memorial, located within the churchyard to the west of the Church of All Saints in Middleton, is a rectangular stone structure dating from the 1920s. It features a stone obelisk raised on a pedestal with a three-stepped plinth. The obelisk is adorned with a carved broadsword in relief that points downwards, surrounded by a laurel wreath with a small Lancashire rose at its center. The base of the obelisk is supported by scroll brackets on either side, and the front panel is canted, inscribed with the words "THEIR NAMES / LIVETH / FOR / EVERMORE." The pedestal's front is divided into three recessed panels, with the central panel being wider and slightly projecting. It bears a dedication that reads, "TO / THE GLORY OF GOD / AND IN / LOVING MEMORY / OF THOSE / WHO MADE THE / GREAT SACRIFICE / + / 1914-1919." The names of the 92 fallen from the First World War are recorded on the two side panels and the rear panel of the pedestal.
