Description
Lever Bridge is a bridge over the River Irk, dating from the 17th century with later repairs and rebuilding. It is constructed of dressed stone and features a single segmental arch with a keystone and a band. The parapet walls splay out at the ends and have chamfered edges on the top stones. There are inscribed stones that read: "Darcy Lever LL.D. enlarged this bridge 1733", "RL 1636 IL" (Robert Lever), and "1658". Additionally, a stone with the date of 1836 has also been recorded.
