Description
Smithy Lodge, located to the east of Heaton Hall, is a lodge built in 1806 by Lewis Wyatt. It is constructed of sandstone ashlar and stucco, topped with a slate roof. The building is designed in a Classical style and has an octagonal shape, featuring one storey and an attic.
The lodge is surrounded by a screen of Tuscan columns that do not have bases, which is mounted on a step. It has a continuous plain entablature and prominent eaves supported by block brackets. The west side includes a shallow porch with monolith jambs, a plain frieze, and a moulded cornice, while the double doors are now clad in metal. The other sides of the lodge feature 12-pane sash windows and shallow 3-pane attic windows. A central octagonal chimney completes the structure.
