Description

Merestone Cottage is a late 18th-century house, now comprising two cottages. It is located on the west side of Doctor Lane in Saddleworth. The building is constructed of hammer-dressed watershot stone with a graduated stone slate roof. The plan is a double-depth arrangement with two bays, and it has two storeys with gable entrances. The front has two 4-light recessed flat-faced stone mullion windows on each floor. Gable chimney stacks are present. Each gable features a timber porch and a 3-light mullion window on the first floor; one of these windows is blocked, and another has had its mullions removed. The original door, situated on the right gable, has a square-cut surround.
