Description

Upper House is a house and farmhouse, largely dating to 1766, although parts may be earlier with subsequent extensions. The building is constructed of hammer-dressed watershot stone, with a graduated stone slate roof. It comprises five bays and two storeys, with a wing extending to the rear right.

The original farmhouse section occupies bays one and two. It has later doors to either side, and three, four, and two-light recessed cavetto-moulded mullion windows on the ground floor; the middle window has been enlarged and the mullions removed. Similar four- and six-light windows are present on the first floor. Bay three is slightly later and features quoins, a projecting plinth, and a five-light window on each floor. The remaining bays were added in the 19th century and contain a door with a dressed surround, alongside single and paired sash windows, now fitted with 20th-century casements. There are four ridge chimney stacks.

The rear elevation has two- and three-light windows, some of which are blocked, and also contains four ridge chimney stacks. A date stone is inscribed on the rear of the farmhouse.
