Description

The milestone located on the south side of Manchester Road in Rixton with Glazebrook is a Grade II listed structure, likely dating from the early 19th century. It is made of whitewashed stone and features a semi-circular shape with a flat top and a straight back. The lettering on the milestone indicates distances, reading 'TO WARRINGTON 4' on the left and 'TO MANCHESTER 14' on the right. This milestone was erected before 1849 and is situated along the former Warrington-Manchester turnpike road, which was established in 1753. It holds significant historic interest as a reminder of the area's transport history.
