Description
The Bridgewater Canal Barsbank Lane Aqueduct is a canal aqueduct located over Barsbank Lane, built around 1770 by James Brindley. It is constructed of sandstone and brick. The structure features a deep segmental arch made of brick, with stone springers and a stone band backing on each face. The archway curves downward towards the center beneath the canal. The side walls of brick and stone under the archway have a curved batter. The aqueduct has curved and battered stone abutments, and battered retaining walls for the roadway cutting on the south face. To the north of the canal, there is a curved brick parapet along the towpath, which has plain flush coping and quoins. Additionally, there is raised paving on the east side under the archway.
