Description

This milestone, located on the east side of Newchurch Lane in Culcheth with Glazebury, is likely from the late 19th century. It is made of whitewashed stone and features a triangular shape with a downward sloping top. The incised lettering on the milestone reads 'NEWCHURCH TOWNSHIP OF CULCHETH' at the top, 'TO WARRINGTON 6 MILES' on the left, and 'TO LEIGH 4 3/4 MILES' on the right. The milestone was erected between 1894 and 1911 and serves as an important historical reminder of the area's transport history.
