Description

This is a late 19th-century milestone located outside 90 Fearnhead Lane in Poulton with Fearnhead. The milestone is made of whitewashed stone and features a triangular shape with a downward sloping top. It has incised lettering that reads 'TOWNSHIP OF POULTON WITH FEARNHEAD' at the top, 'TO LEIGH MARKET PLACE 10 MILES' on the left, and 'TO WARRINGTON MARKET PLACE 4 MILES' on the right. The numerals are slightly worn and not easily discernible. The milestone was erected between 1881 and 1894 and holds significant historic interest as a reminder of the area's transport history.
