Description
Fearnhead House is a house built around 1833, constructed of rendered brick with a slate roof. It has two storeys and three bays. The entrance features a six-panel door, with the lower panels raised and fielded, the upper four panels glazed, and a plain rectangular fanlight above. This entrance is accessed by three steps and is framed by plain stucco pilasters with a moulded head.
On either side of the door are added 19th-century hexagonal bay windows that have sash windows and lead flat roofs. There is a similar bay window on the south gable. The first-floor windows are recessed sashes, and none of the sashes have glazing bars. The house has wide eaves with a soffit, fascia, and crown mould, along with a hipped roof featuring lead hips and ridge. Gable chimneys are present. Fearnhead House was the home of James Cropper, a pioneer of education in Lancashire.
