Description
Orford House, located on School Road in Orford, is a mid-18th century house of medium size set within its own grounds. As of 1973, it was empty but appeared to be in good condition. The house is three stories tall, constructed of brick with a stone base and string courses, featuring "long and short" end quoins. It has a new roof and a stone eaves cornice supported by consoles, while the gable ends are roughcast. The entrance includes a four-panel door set in a moulded stone surround topped with a pediment. The ground floor has four windows that are boarded over, while the upper floors feature five windows, with the first-floor windows being 12-paned sashes and the top-floor windows being casements. All windows have stone sills, lintels, and keystones. The property also includes two stone gate piers topped with vases and iron gates, which have been restored. Orford House, along with the entrance gates and gate piers, as well as the nearby farm building to the north, forms a cohesive group.
