Description
Bishop's Hull House is a building that has been converted into offices. It dates from the mid to late 18th century and was altered in the mid-19th century with new windows and the addition of a porch. The structure is made of brick laid in Flemish bond and features double span slate roofs with coped verges and brick stacks at the gable ends. The house has a parallel range plan, is two storeys tall plus an attic, and has five bays. There are two hipped dormers in the roof space, each with 4-pane sash windows. The square-headed window openings have brick voussoirs, and the sashes do not have glazing bars. The central porch is flat-roofed and made of ashlar Bath stone, with 20th-century glazed double doors. To the left, there is a one-bay flat-roofed addition that has similar window features but appears to have been rebuilt. On the right, there is a blind window in a similar wing that originally had a swept-down coping, which has now been built up. The gable ends are lit by segmental-headed window openings. The forecourt walls are also made of brick in Flemish bond, with remnants of pilaster strips on the right. The left wall has been altered. The gatepiers on the right fronting the road are made of Bath stone and feature flat tops, a moulded cornice, and a moulded plinth. The wall sweeps down to about 1.5 metres and rises again to a single pier at the north end of the forecourt.
