Description
Down House is a single house set in grounds, built in the early 18th century. It features stone walls that are rendered, with stone angle pilasters. The roof is made of slate and stone-slate, with stone gable copings, and there are two brick stacks at the left and right gables. The house is two storeys high and has three windows, along with three lighters that have flat stone mullions, a moulded architrave, and a classical cornice. The moulded stone cills and cast iron casements include one horizontal bar. The entire facade is topped with a modillion eaves cornice.
The front doorway is centrally located and has a stone eared architrave with a projecting dropped triple-keystone. Above the door is a plain classical pediment supported by volute brackets, which continue down as plain pilasters to the stone plinth. The door itself is a 20th-century wooden design with all glass panels.
At the north gable end, there is a small service range constructed with the same materials, roof, and window type. It features a doorway at the north end that is similar to the front door but has a segmental pediment.
