Description
Brookhouse Farmhouse is a former farmhouse now used as a dwelling, dating from around 1744 according to deeds. The building is constructed of whitened small bricks and originally had a stone slate roof, which has since been replaced with small Welsh slates. It is two storeys high and has three bays. The entrance features a porch with a pitched roof and sandstone ridge, containing a later ledged and battened outer door and an oak ledged and battened inner door, complete with strap hinges and an oak cased lock set in a heavy oak dowelled frame. The ground floor has large mullion and transom windows with central horizontal sliding sashes, stone sills, and cambered arches with turning pieces. The eaves reveal exposed oak rafter feet. Inside, reused bevelled oak floor beams and oak roof timbers indicate that parts of the structure may have origins from the late 17th century.
