Description
The milepost on the towpath above the Salterford Tunnel is a canal milepost dated 1819, made by R and D Stone for the Trent and Mersey Canal Company. It is constructed from cast iron and features a tapering column with a quatrefoil plaque on the shaft that displays the date and the maker's name. At the top, below a domed cap, there is a curving plate that reads "SHARDLOW PRESTON 87 BROOK MILES 5 MILES."
