Canal milepost: dated 1819 by R and D Stone for the Trent and Mersey Canal Co. Cast-iron. Tapering column has a quatrefoil plaque on the shaft, recording the date and maker's name. Curving plate at the top below domed cap reads SHARDLOW PRESTON 87 BROOK MILES 5 MILES
