Description
The air shaft above Barnton Tunnel, located off Oakwood Lane, likely dates from the late 18th century. It is constructed of brick, with the upper courses rebuilt in engineering brick and topped with a metal plate. The structure is circular, measuring approximately 1.5 meters in diameter and 3.5 meters in height. The Barnton Tunnel itself was built between 1774 and 1777 by Hugh Henshall.
