Description

LITTLE LEIGH C.P. CHURCH ROAD SJ 67 NW (North Side) 2/44 Lychgate to St.Michael's Churchyard - GV II

Lychgate: dated 1882. Open timber framing and hipped Lakeland slate roof. Chamfered stone base carries heavy timber posts with curving cross bracing. Bressumer between is dated 1882 to the front and is inscribed in applique Gothick lettering to the rear:

I AM THE RESURRECTION AND THE LIFE.

Parallel rafters form the roof. Between are a pair of wooden gates with iron strap hinges and shaped splat balusters in the top panels.
