Description
The Weaverham War Memorial is located in the grounds of the Church of St Mary, which is a Grade I-listed building. It stands to the west of the south aisle and faces west. This tall memorial is made of grey Devonshire granite and features a foliated cross head that rises from a heavily moulded collar on a tapering octagonal cross shaft. The cross shaft is set on a two-stage octagonal base, which is elevated on a square step.
On the front faces of the upper stage of the base, the dedication reads: "TO OUR SONS/ WHO IN THE GREAT WAR OF 1914 - 1918/ LAID DOWN THEIR LIVES." The names of 69 individuals who served in the First World War are inscribed on the faces of the lower stage, organized by Service. The Second World War inscription, "1939 – 1945/ (23 NAMES)," is found on the front riser of the step. Additionally, there is an inscription on the rear of the step that states: "GRANT, O LORD, ETERNAL REST/ UNTO THEM." Two granite flower vases are positioned on the step at the front.
