Description
No. 12 High Street is a building that was originally likely a barn, later converted into a house, and now serves as a shop and storage. It dates from the 17th century, with early 19th century and 20th century alterations. The structure features brick nogged timber framing set on a tall, irregular stone base, topped with an imitation slate roof and a central ridge brick chimney. The building has a long rectangular plan and is two stories high with a four-bay front. It measures 21 by 3 regular small frames. The windows are early 19th century, consisting of 3-light small-pane iron casements that have been inserted into the timber framing and partly into the stone base. A late 19th century shop front has been added to the left of the center, flanked by 3-light windows on either side of a pair of half-glazed doors. There is a truncated projecting gable chimney at the left end and a queen post truss. The rear of the building retains timber framing on a brick plinth, while a rendered brick extension to the right is of no special interest. The interior has not been inspected.
