2/24 The Old Post Office Cottage

Formerly cottage and shippon, now cottage: early C18, extended late C18 with late C19 porch and rear extension. Rendered brick, original house thatched, extensions with Welsh slate roof. 1 gable brick chimney. 2-room plan with former shippon and hayloft added later. 2-storey, 4-bay front. Buttress at right end and plain band at 1st floor. 2 and 3-light wooden casements, the upper ones swept over by the thatch. Brick gabled porch with tile roof and exposed pegged truss. Door under segmental brick head behind. Interior: Entry into lobby. To left room a heavy chamfered beam with tongue stop and flat inglenook fireplace. Central winder staircase leads to bedroom with heavy exposed purlins. Tethering post and exposed beams and joists survive in 2-stall shippon.
