Description

Lydiate Lodge is a lodge built around 1857, with a later extension. It is constructed from coursed rock-faced red sandstone, featuring an ashlar plinth, quoins, and dressings. The slate roof has a timber eaves cornice and rusticated conjoined stacks with ashlar modillion cornices.

The entrance front is a single storey with three bays and an extension to the left. The center of the original front projects as a gabled open pedimented frontispiece, which includes a glazed and sunk panelled door in a moulded surround, topped by a floating cornice hood supported by carved consoles. On either side of the entrance are round-headed slit windows with four vertical panes. The bays flanking the entrance projection have round-headed sashes, each divided horizontally into two panes, set in keyed round-arched openings with corbel stops. The eaves cornice is moulded and modillioned.

The street front is also a single storey with four bays. The projecting end gabled bays each feature three small round-headed sash windows, similar to the entrance front, beneath arcaded hoods with keystones and corbel stops. These bays are topped with simple gable pediments. The inner bays contain two sets of casements arranged in pairs. All windows have steeply weathered stone sills. The interior has not been inspected.
