Description

This building is a farm structure that includes a barn, stable, and cartshed, located 10 meters north of Crowley Grange. It dates from the late 17th century and the late 18th or early 19th century. The building is constructed of brown brick and has a stone-slate roof.

The barn, which is of late 17th century style, features flush sandstone quoins up to two-thirds of its height. It has a threshing porch leading to the yard, with an oak lintel above an opening that has been reduced in height; there are also inserted double doors, a hopper casement, a boarded loading door to the loft, and a diamond vent. The right gable end, as viewed from the yard, has a boarded divided door with a loading door above it, along with a concrete loading platform supported by brick piers and a small wood casement on each side. The face of the building that faces the road has a blocked threshing-floor doorway, two inserted windows, and two rows of diamond vents in the loft. The left gable end, also seen from the yard, has a blocked central tall opening, a boarded door to the left, and two inserted windows.

The former stable and cartshed, likely from the early 19th century, does not have any features of special interest. Inside the barn, there are three repaired kingpost trusses with oak tie-beams, oak purlins, and a diagonally set ridgepiece. The building is included for its group value.
