Description

Crowley Grange is likely a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century, with alterations and extensions made in the mid-20th century. It is constructed of oak small framing with plaster panels, and has clay tile roofs. The front wing, originally comprising two rooms and appearing almost symmetrical, has a replaced boarded door with a small casement window featuring three panes of glass on either side. The wing has a low sandstone plinth, a central ridge chimney, and a flush gable chimney on the left side. Inside the left gable-end, a slightly truncated pair of full crucks is visible, with oak-framed infill. The rear wing, originally two windows wide, was re-faced in brick in the early 18th century and altered in the mid-20th century. A further wing was added to the rear in the mid-20th century. The front wing’s interior features an altered lobby entrance plan, an altered inglenook behind the lobby, and a damaged pair of full crucks. The rear wing, heavily altered, also contains a damaged pair of full crucks, with a sandstone cruck-base visible where the wings join.
