Description
Farm Fold Cottages is a terrace of four mill workers' cottages built around 1860 for Robert Hyde Greg. The cottages are constructed from yellow brick in English bond and feature a Welsh slate roof with two brick chimneys. The design is H-plan, with one cottage in each cross-wing and two in the center.
The west front is symmetrical, two stories high, and has eight bays. The end bays slightly project under gables that have pierced barge boards. Each gable features five-light wooden mullioned windows with moulded flat hoods, and some gables display blue-brick diapering. The central range has similar windows on either side of board doors, which are sheltered by lean-to hoods supported by wooden brackets. Above, there are four three-light casements in raking dormers. The doors to the end cottages are located under gabled hoods.
These cottages are identical to Nos. 41-44 Oak Cottages and represent the third phase of development in the village. They are listed for their group value only.
