Description
Oak Cottages is a terrace of four former mill workers' cottages located on Altrincham Road in Styal, built around 1820 for Samuel Greg. Originally, there were seven cottages, but they have since been combined into four. The cottages are constructed from red brick in English garden wall bond and feature a Welsh slate roof with seven brick chimneys.
The building is two stories high, with a rectangular block that has a 14-bay west front. The windows are restored iron small-pane casements arranged in pairs, set under cambered brick heads. The cottages have board doors that are accessed by flights of three stone steps, which are adorned with wrought iron balusters. Three of the doors are covered by hoods, two of which are gabled and one is a lean-to, supported by wooden brackets. The basement is lit by pairs of small-pane windows.
This terrace represents the second phase of the development of the industrial village.
