Description

Beech Cottage and Fern Cottage are a pair of cottages dating from the mid-to-late 19th century, with some 20th-century additions. They are constructed of English bond yellow brick with a red tile roof, including fishscale bands. Two brick chimneys are present, each with three tall diamond-shaped stacks. The cottages are arranged in an H-plan with a symmetrical four-bay front. The end bays project forward under gabled roofs, which feature pierced barge boards and two bands of blue brick diapering. They have five-light wood mullioned windows with moulded flat hoods and applied lead glazing. Similar windows are found in the central bays, with three-light, timber-framed gabled dormers above. Doorways are located within lean-to porches at either end. The cottages are listed for group value only.
