Description
Hillside Cottage is a late 17th-century cottage featuring a combination of brick nogged timber frame and stonework, topped with a tile roof. The building is a single storey with an attic and consists of two bays. It has a sandstone plinth and the rear wall is also made of stone. The small framing includes passing braces on the west gable, and there are 2-to-4-light cast-iron lattice casements, with those in the upper storey set in gabled dormers on the west gable. A projecting brick porch with sidelights and a pitched roof leads to a door that has false strap hinges and studs, arranged into vertical panels by beads. Additionally, there is an old piggery with a lean-to roof against the east gable, which also features an east gable-end stack. Inside, the cottage includes an inglenook, bevelled beams, and exposed purlins.
