Description
Hill Lane Cottage is a late 17th-century cottage that has undergone alterations and additions. It features a brick nogged timber frame and a machine tile roof, with a single storey and attic in an "L" shaped plan consisting of three bays. The south wing has been rebuilt and has a stone plinth. The cottage displays small framing with tension braces and a replaced ledged and battened door with false strap hinges in an added brick porch. The windows are cast iron lattice casements, with those on the upper floor located in the gables. The rear (west) gable truss has curved principal rafters, and two of the three gables are topped with finials. There is a single-flue diagonal stack. Inside, the ground floor features a bevelled beam, and the upper floor has exposed purlins.
